For millennia, turmeric has been valued for its traditional uses. It has been a core part of Ayurvedic practice for centuries and remains a staple in South Asian cooking. In recent years, it has also gained popularity in the wellness world—appearing in golden milk lattes, functional drinks and even high-end skincare products.
What is turmeric?
Fresh turmeric (Curcuma longa) grows in root form and belongs to the same plant family as ginger. Turmeric powder is made by boiling, drying and grinding the root—something that has been done for thousands of years in South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine.
As wonderful as turmeric is, it naturally has very low bioavailability—meaning our bodies struggle to absorb its key active compounds when eaten in standard culinary form.
What is curcumin?
If you’re familiar with our brand, you’ll know that curcumin is the key active compound found within turmeric. Curcumin is part of a group of plant nutrients called curcuminoids, which were first isolated from turmeric around 200 years ago. These compounds give turmeric its signature golden colour.
Curcumin is widely studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties—but turmeric contains only around 3% curcumin by weight, and its natural form is not easily absorbed by the body.
So, why choose KURK curcumin?
Curcumin is the star of the show—but nature needed a little help from science.
At KURK, our experts have developed a process that extracts and distils curcumin, then disperses it into a micellar liquid format designed to support significantly better absorption than standard turmeric powders or capsules. Roughly 30kg of turmeric becomes 1kg of concentrated, active liquid curcumin.
Because our micellar curcumin is formulated for absorption, it fits easily into a daily routine—and many people choose to take it to support their overall wellbeing, joint mobility, recovery, and everyday resilience.
In KURK, the best of nature meets the best of science—bringing you a modern, absorbable way to enjoy one of the world’s most celebrated plant compounds.
